For my journal, I wanted to put my working introduction because I'd like some feedback and criticism on what to improve grammatically and structurally.

Is America finally becoming more
progressive towards marijuana? Back in the 1970's, Richard Nixon began the
"War on Drugs", which has continued through each administration.
However, the American population may be ready to end an unwinnable war. In the
two last decades, 17 states and the District of Columbia have implemented the
legalization of medical marijuana and in the last election two states have
taken a bigger leap by making the recreational use of marijuana legal. As
states start to challenge federal law, it is time for the federal government to
end its failed policies and accept the use of recreational marijuana much like
alcohol.
